contact lenses?

I've only passed out previously in situations with giving blood or getting shots or surrounding surgeries. But I was being fitted for contact lenses and it happened again. I passed out in the chair. I didn't want to give up so I went back to try the lenses again a week later and almost passed out again. I felt it coming on and was able to lay down and prevent myself from completely passing out. The doctor said I had vaso vagal and would not give me the contacts. Am I doomed to always wear glasses or is there a way to control this?
