Vaso-Vagal and Propanolol (Inderal)

35 yr old female: diagnosed with Vago/Vasal fight or flight (without the tilt test)...is that true?

I thankfully stumbled across this website after wanting more research on Vaso Vagal. My internist feels that I have this and had put me on 20mg of Propanolol that I have since weaned down to 5mg under his care. I thought it was strange to be put on a high-blood pressure medicine when I have very low blood pressure (sometimes 80/60 but usually 92/64 approx). Anyway, he reassured me that it was good to be on because it is a beta blocker. The reason I am on it is that on Sept. 11th of 2004 (of all days) I passed out twice in the morning before breakfast. I was concerned anyway, but even more so that a similar episode had occured about 6 months prior: in the morning before breakfast. Both times I had severe pain...the one 6 months ago I dropped a juicer from the cabinet onto my finger nail. I thought I was fine until I was on the phone talking with my mom when I passed out. (I still feel badly to this day worrying her that way). We all just thought it was do to the pain intolerance. However, this last September when it happened again, in the morning, I had stomach cramps (wasn't sure if it was my "time of the month" because the pain was different, and then I got clammy and my hear began to race. I remembered what happened those 6 months prior and immediately tried to eat something fast to elevate my blood sugar (Cherrios). Didn't help..I wound up waking up disoriented and fearful because my 2 1/2 year old (now 3) was home with me. I went to the phone to call my husband but didn't make it when I passed out again, I woke up under the kitchen table. I at passed out and hit my face on the kitchen chair. Woke up with a fat lip and a huge bump in the back of my head. (I'm only mentioning these details in case anyone else experienced them too). Long story longer (sorry), after all the tests at the ER and subsequently after: heart monitor, EKG, EEG (Brain waves test), everything came out ok. My primary care physician said I don't need to go through the tilt table test. I sort of agree, I think I would already know my answer..sometimes I get dizzy watching a fast moving show. Also, after reading one of the earlier posts..about taking the tilt test and have and IV and nitrogliceride ..made me nervous to hear but glad that person is ok. 5 years prior to this I thought I had chinese food poisioning but now I'm not so sure after reading some similar posts: pain, nausea, drenched sweat, diarreah and weakness at the same time. (SOrry, I can't seem to spell tonight!!) Just was glad to find this website. Oh, also, now I'm wondering (again after reading some of the posts) if I should as my Dr. if I should take Zoloft. Thankfully, I haven't had an episode since Sept. Has anyone else experienced what feels like extreme gas pains in the lower front sides as well as the obvious back?? :) thanks for listening.
