Vaso Vagal Episodes

What you describe has happened to me four times, the last being the previous night. The first three times all happened while on an airplane on overnight flights. Last night was in my bed. I am a male caucasian 51 years old in reasonably good shape. I am 6'-2" tall and 220 lbs.The four episodes occurred over a 5 year period.

The circumstances of all four attacks were identical. I was asleep and was awakened by a mild nausea that steadily increased to the point that I felt I was going to vomit. At this point I also felt like a diarrhea attack was imminent. during this time a cold, clammy feeling would come over me and I would start sweating profusely. I would try to make it to a toilet, but two of the four times I hit the floor in route. I would lay on the floor several minutes unable to talk or move very much, after which the attack would pass and I could get up. By this time my clothes were completely soaked to the point you could wring them out.

I talked to my doctor about this a few years ago and he pronounced it as a vaso vagal syndrome. He was not concerned and told me not to worry about it. Last night I worried.
