Hi Jim - that must have been a scary experience. From what I've read, assystole in syncope is not all that uncommon, and has occured while people are taking the "tilt table test". Generally the heart starts back up again by itself. HOwever, since you had these other earlier chest pains, I think I'd want to push for a better explaination. You might look up "neurocardiogenic syncope" on the web - it's really just another name for vasovagal, but there seems to be more information about it under this other name.
