Peter: Your friend's episodes sound like a vaso-vagal reaction. I've had MANY over the last 12 years, and mine sound very similar to what you described. They come on fast and are absolutely terrifying. Dizziness and tunnel vision are also part of it (for me, any way). During an attack I honestly feel that I may not survive it. I thank GOD for my husband who has held my hand thru all of them and has slapped me awake several times.

Many people with VV are diagnosed with nocturnal panic attacks -- and vice-versa. Who knows which it is.....many symptoms are the same.
