Alison,

Your symptoms sound somewhat like mine, there is however a great deal of different symptoms relating to Vaso Vagal type problems. It may sound really really bad, however I am in my late twenties and 6 months ago had a pacemaker fitted in order to over come the problems I was encountering. It was a piece of cake. The op was simple, it is more difficult to have teeth pulled.

I had been fainting all my life and assumed that I was "Just Fainting". It started age seven.

It turns out however that I was flatlining. Normally around 20 - 30 seconds, occasional vomiting and seizures aswell. (The seizures occur as your heart stops pushing oxygenated blood to your brain? The Pacemaker overcomes all of this. Don't think pacemaker is the answer, there are drugs etc , increase liquid intake, salt reduction etc which can also affect the condition. Alcohol I found in later years can be a factor.

Good luck. Cardiology , not neurology was my saviour. Having been through it from the other side I know what it is like, sites like this one really help when you're in the dark.
